Abayagiri Sthupa
Abhayagiri Sthupa (Uththara Maha Chetha, Abayagiri Dagaba, Apahayagara, Bagirinaka, Bayagiriya) was built by King Walagamba in 1st Century AD. Ancient kings like Gajabahu, Miththasena, Kashyapa the 4th, Sena the 3rd, Parakramabahu the Great have conducted conseravation of this sthupa. The height of this sthupa is 235 feet. Width of the base is 310 feet.
The Central Cultural Fund began the conservation of the Sthupa in 1997. Around 2,833,431 bricks have been used for the conservation of the Sthupa. The expenditure for the conservation of Abhayagiri Sthupa was about 530 Million Rupees (Sl).
