Sigiriya - Sthupa
A monastic complex seems to have emerged in the area around the Sigiri rock in the 3rd century BC. About 30 dripstone caves belonging to it can be identified in this area. Brahmi inscriptions can be seen in 8 rock caves. During the Kasyapa era (5th century AD), this area belonged to the city, and after the Kasyapa era, it was again transformed into a monastery complex. The Bodhighara and Stupa in the rock garden are monuments of the post-Kashyapa period. There is evidence that plaster was applied inside the stone cave and paintings were drawn on it. Several layers of plaster with such paintings can be seen in several caves.
