Thuparama Hospital
Thuparama Sthupa at Anuradhapura is considered to be the first Sthupa built in Sri Lanka following the introduction of Buddhism (307 BCE). Next to the Thuparama Sthupa a hospital with a medicinal trough is visible. The main entrance is through a door located in the eastern side of the building. The foundation of the building has not been preserved well but existing remains indicate that as at Mihintale, a center court around an image house and rooms for inmates were important aspects of this hospital as well. This hospital was built for monks at "Maha Viharaya" and considered as one of the oldest hospital in Sri Lanka.
