Jethavanarama Urinals
An essential feature in a monastery, the urinal reveals a unique system of disposing of urine without polluting the environment. Under the hole in the urinal are several porous bottomed clay pots placed one below the other and containing charcoal, lime, ash, sand etc. The urine is purified as it trickles through them and eventually seeps into the soil.
