Mihintale Slab Inscriptions
The two slab inscriptions which have high historical value were erected on the orders of King Mahinda IV (956-972 AD) who reigned in Sri Lanka in the 10th century making Anuradhapura the capital city. The inscriptions provide information of the administration of the monastery at Mihintale, rules and regulations pertaining to the monk community, intervation of the state, the wages and allowances for the employees of the vihara, information regarding the work involved with the vihara, the relic house and special monastic buildings.
